Libellula depressa

Libellula depressa

Libellula depressa/broad-bodied chaser; a medium-sized dragonfly with very broad, flattened abdomen - males are blue bodied. Its always nice to find a new species in our garden and this one was down to my wife spotting it in our conservatory. I released it and luckilly it rested on the dead branch in our neighbours hedge! Picture taken with a monopod mounted Canon 400D and 300L F/4.0 IS lens with a 2x converter and extension tubes added. I did a little research and in 2007 the British Dragonfly Society ran a survey and there were only 700 reports of this species.
