Firecracker!

Firecracker!

Some abstract, closeup, macro, plant shots to come this week. First up is this Sparmannia africana/Cape Stock-Rose or African Linden flower. Normally grown in the UK under greenhouse conditions, this plant is becoming naturalised in the temperate conditions of the Ventnor Botanic Garden on the Isle of Wight. This area of the Island rarely experiences severe frosts, so this beautiful plant has thrived outside. I'm told by one the staff, that if you touch the stamens they respond by opening out...I'll try that out next time I visit.
